Booking lessons

• Lessons are available by appointment only and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.
• We recommend regular weekly lessons to make steady progress.
• You must hold a valid UK provisional driving licence and meet all legal requirements to drive, including the eyesight standard.

Payments

• Lessons must be paid for at the time of booking to secure your appointment, unless agreed otherwise.
• You can pay online by card, by bank transfer or in cash.
• If you pay in cash, please pay for your first lesson on the day, plus the next lesson in advance. We hold this as a deposit so your next booking is always secured.
• Block bookings must be paid in full before the first lesson.
• Any outstanding balance must be cleared before further lessons can be booked.

Cancelling or rearranging a lesson

We need at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson.

If you give less than 48 hours’ notice, the full lesson fee will be charged and may be taken from any deposit we hold. This also applies to missed lessons, forgotten appointments and not being available at the pick-up time.

Exceptions are made only in genuinely exceptional circumstances, at the instructor’s discretion.

If we need to cancel

If we have to cancel because of illness, a problem with the car, an emergency or severe weather that makes driving unsafe, we will arrange another lesson as soon as possible. You won’t be charged for the cancelled lesson.

Punctuality

• Please be ready at the agreed time and pick-up location.
• If you are late, the lesson will still finish at the booked time and the full fee applies. Lost time can’t normally be added on.
• If your instructor is late, the lost time will be made up wherever possible.

Pick-up & drop-off

Lessons start and finish at the locations agreed when you book. If you’d like to be collected or dropped off somewhere else, please agree it with your instructor before the lesson.

Health & fitness to drive

You must be fit to drive and comply with UK law. Please tell your instructor if you:

• have any medical condition that could affect your driving;
• notice any change in your eyesight; or
• start any medication that may affect your concentration or reactions.

Lessons will not go ahead if your instructor believes you are under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that impairs your driving. In that case the lesson will be cancelled and the full fee charged.

Conduct & safety

• Please follow your instructor’s directions at all times.
• Keep your mobile phone on silent during lessons. Emergency calls are fine when it’s safe to stop.

A lesson may be ended immediately, without a refund, if a pupil:

• is abusive or threatening;
• is under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
• drives or behaves dangerously; or
• deliberately damages the vehicle.

Looking after the car

Please treat the training car with care. If you deliberately damage it, you may be liable for the cost of repairs.

Driving tests

Your instructor will assess whether you have reached the standard needed to take your practical driving test safely. The instructor’s car is only available for a test with their approval, and it may be refused if:

• your driving is not yet at a safe standard;
• you are unlikely to complete the test safely; or
• you appear unfit to drive on the day.

If we don’t think you’ll be ready, we will tell you at least 2 weeks before your test date. The instructor’s decision is final.

Test car hire — £160

Using the instructor’s car for your practical test costs £160. This includes:

• a 1-hour warm-up lesson before the test;
• a 30-minute break before the test;
• use of the car during the test; and
• your instructor attending the test centre with you.

We are not responsible for test cancellations, delays or changes made by the DVSA or the test centre.

Refunds

Unused prepaid lessons may be refunded at the discretion of Dan & Dad Driving School. Completed lessons are non-refundable. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Liability

We are not liable for any losses, missed tests or extra costs caused by circumstances beyond our control. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Your information

Your details are kept confidential and used only to provide your driving tuition and related administration.

Right to refuse service

We reserve the right to refuse or discontinue tuition where necessary for reasons of safety, welfare or professionalism.
